About Us

Welcome to Dorcas House Ministries. Here’s where you can find random acts of kindness that go global. Have a look at who we are and what we do.

HERE’S WHERE WE STARTED

Dorcas House Ministries started in 1994 when six ladies traveled to Tupelo Mississippi at Tupelo Children’s Mansion to sew clothes for orphans. In 1996, Thetus Tenny and Gloria Chatagnier raised funds to build a home for this ministry on the Louisiana District United Pentecostal Church Campgrounds in Tioga. In eight days, wonderful volunteers built the Dorcas House, which provides a large sewing and upholstory workroom, a kitchen, bathroom, and gift shop.

Since this trip to Mississippi, the Dorcas House has dedicated countless hours and finances to help the Lighthouse Ranch for Boys, Tupelo Children’s Mansion, LA District Campgrounds, Church-In-A-Day and countless ministries and people around the world.

While we do sew a lot, we are now much more. We donate thousands of books to Bible schools overseas, collect toiletries and rice for needs in the Philippines, plant flowerbeds at the orphanage, and basically fill whatever needs cross our paths.

WHY WE CALL OURSELVES DORCAS HOUSE

Dorcas House Ministries gets its name from Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, the woman referenced in the Biblical Book of Acts 9:36-42.

Dorcas is one of the few women whose name is preserved in New Testament writings, being clearly named as a disciple. When she died, she was mourned by all the widows, who wept and showed Apostle Peter the robes and other clothing she had made while alive. Her charitable good works caused her to be so beloved that the widows sent for Peter the Apostle to come and pray. And when he did, she was raised from the dead.

WHAT WE HOPE TO DO

In keeping with the Dorcas tradition, the charitable good works of the Dorcas House Ministries continues to meet needs and bring life to those in need around the globe.

WHAT WE ARE A PART OF

Dorcas House Ministries is a division of the Louisiana United Pentecostal Church Women’s Ministry.
